Waterton Lakes NP entrance

Here is an early morning shot looking towards the park. This was taken on my last day as I left for BC. The sun was just rising.
One of the remarkable things is how flat the landscape is; and then suddenly the mountains rise out of the ground.

Bear's Hump Hike

The hike up (200m elevation gain) the Bear's Hump is easy by my defination; 17 min to get to the top. They list it as a moderately dificult hike taking 40 min. to get up. The hike starts at the Information Center just before you get into town. It is steep but the trail is well prepared. The view from the top is a great introduction to the park.
Don't expect much in the way of useful information from the Visitor Guide. It has nothing in the way of trail descriptions; except a very short table listing extreamly short hikes (1 hour or less). But when you are trying to choose between one 24 km trail and another - it's useless.
The pictures at this park were not the best because of forest fires in the USA. The smoke really obsecured the pictures - but nowhere as bad as the smog in Big Bend National Park in Texas!

Cameron Falls

The Cameron Falls are in town and can be found by following the creek back to the cliff. You'll notice how the rock layers are at an angle. That is generally true of all rock in the park and that is why the mountains are so easy to climb - from the back! It makes for a long hike; but you can pretty well walk up many of the peaks.
This picture was taken at 1/15 sec exposure time.
