Mt. Finlayson is clearly visable on the Malahat highway.
Here is Mt. Finlayson as seen from the the Falls trail. The Niagara Falls trail continues uphill to a lookout which I was never able to find. So here is a picture with the mountain barely visable thru the trees (it was more visable with my eyes!).
Getting up Mt. Finlayson was fun. It involves going beyond hiking and having to "scramble" at times. With the kids on our backs it was getting hard enough that we were worried about the descent. But coming down was pretty fast and secure. Under wet conditions this would be quite unsafe!
The view at the top was nice. The golf course and housing ruins things but it's the best view point in the area.
If you're interested in getting up another hill consider Mt. Work. Gov. Mt. Work Park site
I know, you're asking why I wasted a picture taking this shot! This is what we call "development".
This is it - we're almost a the top. The nice thing in this picture is the small hills in the near distance. In the far distance is the USA.
You're really at the top when you see the marker.
This is actually the last bit of the approach to the top.
The next three pictures were "tiled" and can be joined.
That's all of the views from the top. Now the descent. The first picture will reveal that, yes, this is a scramble at times.
