I entered Strathcona NP at the Mt. Washington entrance. This was the last
summer that camping in the park is free. This entrance has a paved road
leading to it and extensive board-walk walkways thru the meadows. The hike
into the campgrounds is not too long; aprox. 8km.
Here is a picture just after the main entrance.
Once we setup camp at Kwai Lake we did the short hike out to Cruickshank
Canyon. In this picture you can see the park boundary and how the forest
outside of the park is being logged. The 2nd picture (canyonf.jpg) was
taken by my friend Eric Davies.
Here is one of the lakes we stopped at for water.
Note: The lakes in this park are very shallow. Please do not bath or wash your dishes in them because they are the only source of drinkable water. I had the misfortune of setting up camp right after some brain dammaged hiker had washed a lot of dishes in the water. There was food and soap floating everywhere!
