Garabaldi National Park (BC) Vacation Pictures

Hike Summary: Height gain is aprox. 1800' elevation to 4700' (Garabaldi lake) then to 7598' (2316m) for the Tusk.
The hike to meadow is listed as 18km return, 5000'/1500m gain, 7-8h

The hike upto Garabaldi lake is not fast. It takes aprox. 2 hours to climb up thru the forest before you will see anything other than trees. It's steep and you'll notice litchen growing on the trees.

Here is a view of the Great Barrier from a viewpoint near the top. The barrier holds back Garabaldi lake.

Once you have made the climb you will see the meadow and the Black Tusk in the distance.

At that point you can continue to the lake or head towards the Black Tusk. Here is a view of the lake from a place close to the campgrounds.

These views are from the side and front of the Black Tusk including a Marmot that was coming down as I was going up.

Once you climb around to the side of the Black Tusk you can climb up a chimney. There are 2 ways up; one fairly easy and the other has a difficult section. The rock is sharp and crumbly. The is one of the last reminants of a volcanic ridge.
These pictures are a panaramic view as seem from the top of the tusk looking east to west. If the sky was clear you would be able to see the ocean.
