Lake Louise (Alberta) Vacation Pictures

Unfortunately my camera back was opening up slighly; causing dammage to many of my pictures (red strip on the left).

This is lake Louise as seen from the Chateau. You can rent canoes but we found them expensive and the place rather busy so we rented canoes on Lake Moraine.

I would highly recommend hiking upto the top of the Beehive; or at least Lake Agnes and then returning via the other route. The Beehive is in the 2nd picture, the large round peak in the foreground.

This is the "Beehive". After hiking to the end of the lake and part way up the mountain you can return or climb to the top of the Beehive via the tea-house (steep climb) or by the back, sloping, side of the beehive.

Hiking upto the Beehive you will see the lake beneath you:

From the top of the Beehive you will have this view of the Lake Louise:

Hiking down towards the tea house you will see Lake Agnes. The tea house is at the end of the lake by the cliff. Lake Agnes is a 3.4km (one way) hike from Chateau Lake Louise.

Pictures taken by Roger Sanderson in late May 2002

You'll note the lack of color in the water and the snow. It was a winter of heavy , and late, snowfalls - with 30 cm on May 22nd! The water color varies depending upon what water has recently come into the lake. Glacial run-off makes the lake an electric blue and that settles out with time changing the color to a green in August. Dark blue lakes tends to be spring, not glacier, fed.
