This is our day hike up to the top of Mt. Albert Edward. If you go into this
park you must do this hike. It is a long hike if done from Kwai
campground. I met someone who was doing it from the parking lot; and although
that is possible, you are looking at a 10+ hour day of hiking at a fast
pace.
While hiking we took a wrong turn and had to bushwack down a hillside and
up the mountain you see in the distance. Then we found the trail again.
Having climbed up that hill (but not to the peak yet!) I looked down at
Moat Lake for this picture
As you climb higher you will find pools of water from the melting snow and
no shortage of cairns. The picture, cairnf.jpg, was taken by Eric Davies.
This is the "ice fields". This was a very warm and dry year so much of the snow melted. The Mt. Albert Edward peak can be seen in the distance. It is the
gradual (seeming) ramp.
I took these pictures from the peak. You can see Mt. Washington with the
downhill ski runs in the 2nd picture.
At this point the climbing is done on screen. Yes there was snow here in August! The hike
isn't hard - just a gradual, grinding walk up the ramp.
