These pictures are from an August 2000 trip.
The hike along Trout river is an easy 14 km return trip. There is very little elevation change. However, the trail does not go far enough. You don't quite get to the steep cliff walls that are beyond the trail! Near the end of the trail there are many side trails which people have made. We did this hike as a morning warmup and it took us 4 hours.
Here is the village just before you head to the Trout River Pond campground:
This is the view from the Trout River Campground, looking towards the Tablelands and the Trout River hike.
Both pictures merged look like:
At this point you are at the narrows in the pond. It becomes quite narrow and then the cliff walls get steeper.
There were several side trails at this point. Some climbed a small hill closer to the pond. We did not plan
for these side trails and did not have time to explore them.
