He then cycled to Alp du Heuz but the snow was so deep that they were not even
trying to plow it. Here are some pictures on the way there.
This is the mountain pass Forclaz. It was a moment of calm when it was only drizzling. Soon I would be in the heaviest rain of the entire trip. I think that the only thing that kept me going was my youth! I certainly did not have any rain clothes - simply lycra cycling clothes, a thin windbreaker and some lifa underclothes.
This is the hills around the town of Charmonix. I'd lost my cycling friend at the
Matterhorn and we found each other in Carmonix a day later. The day was spent
cycling in the drizzle; hoping to get a view of the mountains that are supposed
to be around here. These few pictures were all that I ever saw of the mountains.
This is it - my last day in Nice. I find the town to be quite large and packed with cars - and this isn't even tourist season! The beach does not have sand; but small stones that make an interesting sound as the waves push them in and out.
Here is the apartment where I stayed.
Here are some views of the town. I took the overnight train to Nice and was very sleeping when I arrived. The next day I flew out - and the day was generally wet and windy.
