The weather was cool to warm and calm to windy-as-hell. The bugs were light to clouds of them - primarily blackflies and misquitoes at night. Unfortunately the day that we climbed Silver Peak it was hazy. All other days were clear.
Luckily for us - on the really windy days we had a tail wind - so much so that at times we didn't dare paddle on the water as the wind and white caps were tossing us around.
At this point we had 2 portages and a bit of paddling to get to a campsite at the
base of Silver Peak. All of the canoe campsites were actually filled (with 2 to
7 canoes each!) and so we stayed at site H34.
These pictures were taken around site #116.
Here are 2 Loons on the water. It is rather hard to get close to these animals.
For close up shots a 200mm lens would really help!
Here is a picture from site #63 on Johnnie lake.
At this point we took a tour of Johnnie lake. These pictures look towards site
number 66 and we climbed the walls on the opposite side of the lake.
Both of those pictures can be joined to make:
From the top of the walls you get a nice view looking back towards Silver peak as well
as Johnnie lake.
Here is a nice example of how trees grow out of the rocks in this part of Ontario.
Some young birch trees have started growing in a crevice. It's quite amazing how a
large tree can support itself without much soil.
Lastly, this little alcove is where we left the canoe while hiking up the walls.
