During our first day of hiking the air smelled of smoke and it was hard to see clearly (one picture was taken
in the campground). The next morning
all was clear and then after hiking at one of the passes - it because very clear what happened. There were
several fires and at night the wind changed, blowing the smoke away; but during the day the smoke was blown
into the valley.
One of the trails starts by cutting across a river. The smoke is visible in the distance; and you can barely
make out someone crossing the river.
Here are 2 pictures from a hike up a narrow canyon. You can see the parking lot in the picture below. As
we climbed higher things got steadily harder and harder. Rocks gave way to bolders to scrambling until we
met some Austrians who were shaking their heads. Both of the scans of the cliff face were taken from the negatives.
Clearly, the films interperated the colors differently! The 2-high picture was shot with a 50 mm lens and a 28mm
lens was used to capture the whole cliff in a single frame.
