Eric Praetzel Vacation Pictures - Hunter Peak Hike - Guadalupe Mountains NP

 The hike upto Hunter peak was easy going. It takes about 2 hours to get up and the hike is a steady climb up the sides of the mountains. The trail is visible in many of the pictures I have. The hike upto Hunter Peak, with a 1 hour side trip along the other mountain ridge trail, around the Bowl and down Bear Canyon took me 6 hours.
I returned down the Bear Canyon trail and I strongly advise people to climb up Bear Canyon as the trail is built on rock / gravel and it is tough going down it when you've been hiking for 4+ hours.
At the top you can do a loop out thru the Bowl. Here you can easily see evidence of a fire that burnt 5,000 acres of land.
