Port Alberni Area (BC) Vacation Pictures

Port Alberni has historically been a town dependant upon logging. Many of the pictures show the clear cut logging which has been done. We can only hope that continued protests and social action puts this destructive logging practice firmly into our shamefull past. When I was cycling thru Germany and Austria I was surprised by the selective logging practices I saw. They are sustainable and make economic sense. Full scale rape of the land with clear cut logging is a fast and cheap practice that destroys the ecosystem, provides short term work for local people and profits for a multinational company.

Here is a picture of Port Alberni as seen from the Harbour Quay followed by pictures taken along the boat ride out to Ucluelet.

At this point we are approaching the open ocean. The wall of clouds on the left marks the ocean along with it's full swells and waves. Just before that we pass by the string of Broken islands.
