• 2008: this really helped the sprouts grow leaves and helped the corn.
• Succession plant - follow bush beans after peas
• 2007: As last year, this failed totally.
• 2008: peas are just flowering in early Oct, but are very small. Radishes are not doing well either. Corn salad/lambs lettuce failed yet again - no germination?
• cow manure side dressing
• 2008: Something went terribly wrong with the one garden patch - tomatoes, kale, onions, garlic all did very poorly - poor leaf growth and fruiting for no known reason.
• square-foot Mel's Mix with peet, cow manure, vermiculite
• This soil is very sensitive to moisture and tomatoes, in particular, need to be watered AT LEAST DAILY
• try fava beans, tangy salad, corn salad aka lambs lettuce aka mache
• 2007: All fava beans failed to thrive and died - nematodes?
• 2008: All fava beans did well - community garden and at home
• try new varities of tomatoes - "boars heart aka Monzolo"
• try brussel sprouts
• 2007: they grew well but failed to really mature the sprouts
• 2008: I started them earlier, all at the community garden were decimated in 2 days by flea beetles. Sprouts at home are maturing from the top down! and the first mid sized ones were picked early Oct 2008.
